The Technofile 2010 Awards

At the risk of stating the obvious, it’s the start of a new decade and this, in conjunction with the Technofile celebrating its 5th birthday (albeit slightly belatedly) seems like the perfect opportunity to give out some awards. Unlike everyone else’s awards though, the Technies are not for the best of 2009, or even for the best of the noughties. They are for, what, in the opinion of The Technofile, is the best software and hardware currently available to creative professionals. Whether it was released yesterday or 5 years ago is immaterial, the only stipulation is that you can go out and buy it…or sit at home and download it (legally, of course) now. So, without further ado: Continue reading »

Adobe Creative Suite 3 world exclusive preview by MC Rebbe The Rapping Rabbi

Those of you who read my blog will know that at the end of January, I spent half a day at an exclusive press event (and a further half day at a follow up event a couple of weeks ago). Since both events were under Non Disclosure Agreement, I was unable to say anything more until now…when I can exclusively reveal that they were previews of Adobe’s Creative Suite 3, which will be formerly announced today. sams Teach Yourself HTML and CSS in 24 Hours reviewed in The Technofile by MC Rebbe The Rapping RabbiWhen I first saw the title of this book, I was pretty sceptical. After all, I’ve seen numerous similarly titled books in the past, which promise to teach a complex technology in a short space of time and which generally fail to deliver. You know the ones I mean, you see them in the computer section of bookshops…each one is about one thousand pages long, packed full of dense text and entitled something like ‘Learn Oracle During Lunchtime’…or ‘Design and Build a Supercomputer in 3 and a half Minutes’. Fortunately though, unlike those others, this book actually succeeds in delivering on its promises. Continue reading »

This year, Christmas is coming early, courtesy of Adobe, who have decided to release a public beta version of Photoshop 3. According to the company, this is to “enable customers to more easily transition to the latest hardware platforms, particularly Apple’s new Intel-based systems.”

You can download the beta, which is available as a Universal Binary for Macs or as a Windows XP/Vista compatible version, from http://labs.adobe.com, but in order to be able to do so, you’ll need a serial number from either Adobe Photoshop CS2, Adobe Creative Suite® 2, Adobe Creative Suite Production Studio, Adobe Design Bundle, Adobe Web Bundle or Adobe Video Bundle. If you don’t have a serial, you can still download the software, but it will expire after two days. Whether or not you have a serial, you’ll need to register online with Adobe or have an existing Adobe.com membership account to access the download.

Adobe claim that Photoshop CS3 is “packed with new features,”  including a pre-release version of a major upgrade to Adobe Bridge and the brand new ‘Adobe Device Central’, which, Adobe  say, can be used to “design, preview and test compelling mobile content, created specifically for smaller screens.”
Though Adobe say there will still be some surprises in store when the final version is released, you’ll have to wait ‘till a yet unnamed date in Spring 2007 to find out what they are.

MC Rebbe The Rapping Rabbi reviews Total Training CS2 Standard bundle in The TechnofileIf you read my recent review of Total Training’s Digital Video Collection Professional Plus bundle,  you’ll know that I’m a big fan of their tutorial DVDs, so it’ll come as no great surprise that I’m giving them full marks for this bundle, which is, without question, a superb resource for anyone wanting to learn the ins and outs of Adobe Creative Suite 2.

Based around three separate DVD sets, ‘Total Training for Adobe Photoshop CS2′, ‘Total Training for Adobe Illustrator CS2′ and ‘Total Training for Adobe InDesign CS2′, it also includes two bonus DVDs ‘Adobe Photoshop Tips and Tricks’ and ‘Digital Photography and Adobe Photoshop’. Adobe Creative Suite 2 Premium reviewed in The Technofile by MC Rebbe The Rapping RabbiOn 4th April 2005, at 12pm precisely, The Technofile delivered a world exclusive preview of Adobe’s Creative Suite 2, based upon very late official beta software. Since then the code’s gone gold master, the product’s shipped and the verdict’s in…and it’s a good one…in fact the best, because not only does CS2 deliver some excellent new functionality; thanks to Adobe’s vision of a ‘unified design environment’…which is not just a sound bite…but also a sound byte…CS2 offers far tighter integration of its constituent parts than ever before. Adobe Creative Suite 2.0 exclusive preview in The Technofile by MC Rebbe The Rapping RabbiA few weeks ago Adobe invited me to a very exclusive breakfast presentation at The Soho Hotel in London. Since, it started at 9.30a.m and I don’t get out of bed for less than ten billion, I stayed out and partied all night, which was hardly a sacrifice, but which did leave me feeling a little peckish.

No problem I thought, as my limo drew up at the doors of the Soho, I’ll have breakfast when I get inside. If only…no bagels, no smoked salmon, no cream cheese…not even any champagne. Fortunately the presentation was better than the breakfast… Continue reading »
