Everyone’s favourite VJing app, Resolume, is back with it’s latest and greatest 2.4 upgrade. But don’t be fooled by the fact that it’s only a point upgrade, rather than a full one, as this new version sports both a complete rewrite and added functionality…and what’s more, it’s free to existing 2.x users!

Edirol Digital Stage Motion Dive Tokyo Console Edition reviewed in The Technofile by MC Rebbe the Rapping Rabbi

According to legend, back in 1998, Tomoyasu Hirano (now the CEO of Digital Stage) had a VJing gig. At the time most Japanese VJs did their thing with video tapes, but since Hirano’s  repertoire was entirely computer generated, he, quite logically wanted to find a way to output direct from his computer, so he wrote some software…in one evening (the evening before the gig no less)…and so Motion Dive was born, which, as it evolved, gained the suffix ‘.Tokyo’, in reference to the scene out of which it had grown.

MC rebbe The Rapping Rabbi at London Calling 2006

Last week, London’s Earls Court played host to “London Calling,” a newish (as opposed to a Jewish) music biz conference/expo/ showcase that claims to be “the dynamic new international event for artists, managers, labels, service providers, brands and the new companies building the future of music business,” but which was so dominated by the net, that I kept thinking I was at a computer trade fair. Psyberpixie Arkaos Content Packs reviewed in The Technofile by MC Rebbe the Rapping RabbiIf you’re a VJ, looking for ready made material, then these two  downloadable ‘content packs’ might be just the thang. In contrast to some of  Arkaos’ content packs, which contain very raw footage, South Florida based VJ, Psyberpixie’s packs are the finished article, consisting of ready mixed, multi layered, effected clips.

The first of the two, ‘Psyberpixie by Psyberpixie’, open with proof that Psyberpixie gives good head…as brightly posterised Wharholesque heads on a trio of TV screens jump back and forth in the opposite direction to the stone carved Javanese temple heads above them…a theme that is reprised in the following clip, albeit with a different colour scheme. Arkaos Content Packs

So you’ve wanna be a VJ? You’ve bought your copy of Arkaos…or Resolume…you have your laptop all fired up and ready to go…now what? You need clipz! MPEGS, JPEGS, Flash animations, 3D animations…you get the picture… Of course you could go out with your DV camera and shoot nicely lit, nicely exposed footage in prime locations…if you have a DV camera and access to prime locations…or you could get down with some serious computer graphics software…or, if you lack the facilities and technical abilities to do either, you could spend ages searching for stuff to download, but you’d be wasting valuable time that would be far better spent reading The Technofile and my blog.

Another alternative is to buy pre packaged content. Arkaos have a range of homemade titles that can be downloaded or purchased on CD. Each title is about 300 meg in size, so if you want to go for the download option, you’ll need broadband and a burner, as you’ll want to back up your newly acquired content…especially if you want to use it to ‘play out’. But so long as you have these, downloading is a good money saving option…and a far better bet than relying on the British postal service… Continue reading »

MC Rebbe The Rapping Rabbi reviews Total Training's Digital VideoCollection Professional Plus Bundle in The Technofile Adobe make some great applications, but they’re not exactly the easiest to learn…especially for newcomers…so it’s lucky that help is at hand in the shape of Total Training’s ‘Digital Video Collection Professional Plus Bundle’. Designed to accompany Adobe Video Collection Professional 2.5, it contains a massive 30 DVDs, with an even more massive total running time of 102 hours….yes…102 hours…and having watched all 102 hours…during one lunchtime (I was hungry)…I think I can say with some authority, buy them!
