The End of The War?

LG Electronics Super Multi Blue GGW-H10N previewed in The Technofile by MC Rebbe The Rapping Rabbi

It had to happen sooner or later and now it has…someone has released a dual format Blue Ray and HD DVD drive…and that someone is LG Electronics. I know this because last week I was at the launch of not one, but two dual format drives, by the major Korean manufacturer, at appropriately cutting edge London venue, 24. Well I Neve R

It’s not every day you get to meet a recording industry legend, but on Monday, Rupert Neve, got to meet me!

R is Legendary in recording industry circles, where his name is synonymous with the absolute best in analogue mixing console design. Chances are at least some of your music collection will have been recorded and mixed through one of his bespoke consoles. So obviously it was a great honour for R to finally come face to face with The Rebbe, at the opening of Sonic Distribution‘s new demo facilities at Canalot studios in London. Adobe Releases Photoshop CS3 Beta

This year, Christmas is coming early, courtesy of Adobe, who have decided to release a public beta version of Photoshop 3. According to the company, this is to “enable customers to more easily transition to the latest hardware platforms, particularly Apple’s new Intel-based systems.”

You can download the beta, which is available as a Universal Binary for Macs or as a Windows XP/Vista compatible version, from http://labs.adobe.com, but in order to be able to do so, you’ll need a serial number from either Adobe Photoshop CS2, Adobe Creative Suite® 2, Adobe Creative Suite Production Studio, Adobe Design Bundle, Adobe Web Bundle or Adobe Video Bundle. If you don’t have a serial, you can still download the software, but it will expire after two days. Whether or not you have a serial, you’ll need to register online with Adobe or have an existing Adobe.com membership account to access the download.

Adobe claim that Photoshop CS3 is “packed with new features,”  including a pre-release version of a major upgrade to Adobe Bridge and the brand new ‘Adobe Device Central’, which, Adobe  say, can be used to “design, preview and test compelling mobile content, created specifically for smaller screens.”
Though Adobe say there will still be some surprises in store when the final version is released, you’ll have to wait ‘till a yet unnamed date in Spring 2007 to find out what they are.

Just One Announcement

MC rebbe The Rapping Rabbi writes about Red One digital cinema camera in The TechnofileEvery April, NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) takes place in Las Vegas (where else). Usually this is the place where major manufacturers make major announcements about major new products, but this year, such announcements were pretty thin on the ground.

JVC announced a pair of Pro HDV cameras, with interchangeable lenses, which look interesting, if a little (i.e. very) overpriced, Panasonic released…a DV camera (huh?), Canon released…a lens (big wow) and Sony released…nothing.

As it turns out, Sony might, unintentionally, have made the best move of all, because no matter what was announced, it would inevitably have been completely overshadowed by ‘Red’. Continue reading “Just One Announcement”
