The Future Is Digital…

MC Rebbe The Rapping Rabbi. From his monthly editorial in The Technofile: Rapper, DJ, VJ, Producer, remixer, Jewish comedian, Jewish comedy, Jewish rap, Jewish music Last month at the PMA (Photo Marketing Association) trade show in Florida, Canon announced their brand new 8 mega pixel EOS 350D SLR (which is close to being a 20D, but at the ‘knock down’ price of £749/$899)…at almost exactly the same time as Kodak were announcing that UK production of Medium format film is to cease (though it will still be manufactured in other…sweatier…countries and sold in the UK). Just One More Thing…

MC Rebbe The Rapping Rabbi. From his monthly editorial in The Technofile: Rapper, DJ, VJ, Producer, remixer, Jewish comedian, Jewish comedy, Jewish rap, Jewish music Like I said last month, January promised to be a big one with CES, Macworld & NAMM all taking place within days (and several hundred miles) of each other. But in the event…or before the events, January came early with an announcement by Yamaha that they had bought Steinberg, the makers of Cubase & Nuendo. Until a couple of years ago, Steinberg were an independent company, but shortly after Apple acquired Emagic (the makers of Emagic Logic…aka Apple Logic) video software company Pinnacle snapped them up…and despite lots of talk, did very little with the company. Steinberg & Yamaha are both audio technology innovators so what happens next should be something worth watching…though let’s not forget what happened the last time the Germans and the Japanese formed a partnership… Continue reading “Just One More Thing…”

Tech Heaven

Jewish Comedian MC Rebbe The Rapping Rabbi January is a big month for tech headz!

It all kicks off on January 6th with CES, otherwise known as The Consumer Electronics Show, in Sin City itself, Las Vegas. Sure the C is for Consumer, not creative, but there’s bound to be brand new creative technology on show, particularly on the video camera front, so pay attention from January 5th, the date on which some of the major manufacturers have press conference scheduled. Education! Education! Education!

I looked o’er tech mag land and what did I see? An unholy obsession with the latest software and hardware. Now I’m as guilty as the next Jew of wanting to know how many mega pixels? Does it do 192(Khz)? When is the next version going to be released? etc. But unlike some, I’m just as concerned with the creative process as with the processor, and it’s high time (and there’s nothing like high time) that everyone else was too. Of course it’s not the tech mags that are to blame, after all they are just filling a hole in the market (and there’s nothing like filling a hole), so good luck to them. Continue reading “Education! Shalom Muthafunkers!

To those that know me….and to those that don’t, SHALOM MUTHAFUNKERS and welcome to The Technofile, a rebbezine devoted entirely to technology. Before we go any further though, let’s get something straight. I might be a technophile, but even I have my limits. If you want to read in depth analysis of system architectures, discuss the relative merits of PC cooling systems, or perhaps read this entire publication in machine code ‘because English is for wimps’…get a life! This rebbezine is about the technology related to creativity and entertainment (and for those creatives and entertainers who could do with sorting their lives out, which lets face it, is probably all of you, we’ll also be covering hardware and software to help you do just that). Continue reading “Shalom Muthafunkers!”
